The Greeks made post-and-beam architecture the style to have during their heyday. The Romans borrowed many architectural tips from the Greeks, including how to set a theater into a hillside and build a wall against the stage for the best possible acoustics. But the Romans also contributed a new architectural style to history: the Roman arch. Arches were especially useful in the southern part of Europe, such as Italy and southern France, where arches were a good way to build large buildings without having to find a giant tree to cut down for a roof. The arch could be made of many stones instead, something that is easier to come by in hotter climates. Here are some examples of Roman architecture.
